Teen Between in Tipperary Regional Youth Service
It is one of the most stressful times to go through, when your parents are getting a divorce or separating. You may even have a feeling of guilt that it was partly your fault……It isn’t
From constant fights to silence at the dining table, you might feel the emotions your parents are going through such as anger, shock, confusion, disbelief and a sense of uncertainty.
Teen Between is a specialised support service for teenagers whose parents are going through a divorce or separation. It can also help young adults who have experienced their parent’s separation during their teenage years.
With Teen Between, you and the Teen Between worker work together to resolve the issues that concern you. You can explore as much as you want of the situation and you will never be asked to talk about anything you do not want to.
The Youth Work Ireland Teen Between Service is a partnership project with Relationships Ireland and delivers a specific advice, listening and support service, for adolescent children whose parents/guardians are experiencing relationship difficulties, relationship breakdown, separation or divorce. This partnership project has been in operation since 1999. The staff involved in the delivery of this service are full time youth work practitioners, youth information workers or senior volunteers with Youth Work Ireland Local Youth Services. They undergo a screening and recruitment process with qualified counselling trainers from the Training & Education Division of Relationships Ireland, which is accredited by the Irish Institute of Couple Counselling.
The service is provided in nearly 50 locations around the country by 60 workers from Local Member Youth Services of Youth Work Ireland. In Tipperary this service is available in Tipperary Regional Youth Service. At present Tipperary Regional Youth Service has three youth workers trained in Teen Between providing this support service for youth who are having difficulties with a separation in their lives will access our service. This is not a replacement for professional counselling but a support service for youth to help them over a difficult time in their lives. The service usually involves 4 to 6 sessions with the young person. Procedures are in place if further referral is required for the young person and this is covered in the training programme.
